Equine Influenza is a highly contagious virus that is spread by air or direct contact from one to another. Equine Influenza attacks the respiratory tract and has a sudden onset that may include symptoms of watery nasal discharge that becomes thick and colored, fever (38.5 – 41.0C) dry hacking cough, sore throat, lethargy, stiff and sore, loss of appetite and labored breathing. The incubation period is approximately 5 days. In some cases the highly contagious influenza could lead to secondary complications such as bacterial pneumonia.
